We are delighted to announce that Bernard Hughes’s Hear My Heart Sing has been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award at this year’s Ivors Classical Awards.

“I’m delighted to be nominated for the Ivors Classical Awards, the pinnacle for British composers. I’m grateful to the panel for choosing Hear My Heart Sing – and hope it leads to further performances of a piece I’m very fond of.”
Bernard Hughes
This is Bernard’s third nomination at the Ivors Classical, having previously been nominated for The Death of Balder in 2009, and again in 2020 for I Sing of Love.
Hear My Heart Sing was commissioned by the Lucis Choir of Bath, with the generous support of the Francis Routh Trust. It was premiered in Bath in July 2024, and has since been performed by Londinium and the National Youth Choir. It will receive its US premiere this coming Sunday (October 19th) by the Albany Pro Musica.

Hear My Heart Sing is a fast and exciting piece for SATB choir with divisi. It celebrates the joy of singing together, through imagery and rhythms connected with the beating human heart. The text is by Helen Eastman, capturing the trochee rhythm of words like ‘singing’, ‘living’ and ‘loving’. Both exciting and moving, this short choral showpiece is suitable for professional and amateur choirs alike.
Many congratulations to Bernard. We’re proud to publish your music, and wish you the best of luck at the awards ceremony!
To celebrate this fantastic honour, Hear My Heart Sing is available at a special discounted rate until 31st December.
